Canadian rapper Tory Lanez just released his fifth studio album entitled Daystar which is an attack on female MC Megan The Stallion and celebrities who've defended her. Earlier this summer on July 12, Megan, Lanez, a bodyguard, and Kelsey Nicole (another friend) had a confrontation with the authorities in the Hollywood Hills area. Lanez was arrested that morning for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, which is a felony in Cali. Megan was transported to the hospital for what police were led to believe were cuts from glass on her feet. Fast forward a couple of days later on July 15, Megan set the record straight on Instagram and described suffering "multiple gunshot wounds, as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me."

Megan Thee Stallion's bestfriend Kelsey Nicole clears up rumors about the July 12 incident.

On Aug. 20th, Megan The Stallion went on Instagram live to address all the jokes, false rumors, and victim blaming that has stemmed from the shooting. Allegedly, Lanez and his team are responsible for a smear campaign to discredit Megan's side of the shooting. Lanez's team reportedly sent out emails to media outlets claiming to be a representative for 300 Entertainment, Megan's record label, claiming to "campaign press" on Lanez's behalf. The Canadian rapper's team also reportedly created fake text messages between Lanez and the WAP rapper that were sent to media outlets and circled on the internet. Lanez and his team have since denied all allegations.
Daystar is a an album of gas-lighting and condoning abuse in black communities. Originally, Megan apparently did not tell the police that she was shot or that it was Lanez who shot her because she was protecting his life and this is how he thanked her. 2020 has been a year where racial tensions between black people and the police are at a all time high following the murder of George Floyd who was senselessly murdered by The Minneapolis Police Department on May 25.
Megan's strength to speak up and tell her side of the story even when being attacked from all angles shows her strength and resilience as a black woman. Megan will not allow anyone to silence her. Imagine what it must feel like to be in her position? Megan and her friend just wanted to go back to their hotel after a long fun night out. Megan nor her friend drove, so when the designated driver decided that their night was not over and refused to take them back to the agreed upon location, of course an argument ensued. By all accounts Megan did the right thing by trying to remove herself from the situation before a physical altercation took place. Instead of letting Megan and her friend go, Lanez decided to shoot her because to him her life has no value if she is not bending to his will. Instead of rallying behind Megan people are rallying behind Lanez simply because he can sing. We've seen this happen before, the prime example being R.Kelly's whole career in music. Lanez is benefitting from the R.Kelly effect, when a person's crimes against black women are excused or even completely overlooked by the black community as long as they keep producing "good" music.

Since when is it acceptable to profit off of the pain of the black woman? Tory Lanez waited over a month to not even apologize to Megan or the world, but to capitalize on her pain through a diss album. This album is contemptible, it does not matter what Lanez's voice sounds like it is the reprehensible accusations against Megan, the narcissism, and dodging of responsibility for his part in the incident that sells this album not his voice. Lanez had more than two months to get his story straight but instead he touts questions about how Megan got shot in the back of her foot. He was there! If Kelsey and the bodyguard did not shoot Megan then who in the hell did? Shots just do not ring out in the Hollywood Hills, that area is not Crenshaw Heights. Daystar is Lanez continued tirade of abuse against Megan. Was shooting Megan, blaming her for the altercation that took place, and coming for the people who rallied behind her not enough? Lanez had to put the proverbial icing on the cake by making a whole album to embarrass, humiliate her, and further attempt to bully her into silence.  According to sources close to the incident, Lanez even told her to "Dance bitch" as he shot her, this is not a Dave Chapelle comedy skit, this is real life! The thing that makes this whole situation even worse is that Lanez tried to offer her money to cover up the incident once she declined and refused to be silenced his team started the smear campaign against her. If that is not toxic, then what is? When do we as people finally say enough is enough? Lanez has a history of violent encounters already under his belt.  Lanez has a established history of violence against people. Last year(2019), Lanez allegedly attacked a Miami nightclub promoter.
If anything Daystar is a poor attempt to flip the victimization onto himself instead of the actual victim of abuse, Megan. Daystar is simply an attempt to save Lanez's career and garner a new fanbase of misogynists. Black women are the most unprotected people in society.  Far too often black women are thrown to the wolves by all people; especially by the black men that are supposed to love and cherish them in this world. It hurts. There is no coincidence that Lanez and his team decided to time his album release with the grand jury's decision to not charge the officers who murdered Breonna Taylor in her home. The fact that this trash is at the top of the charts is insane and shows just how many of our own people are okay and even excited by the victimization of black women.

At the end of the day, Daystar is an act of aggression and should not be taken as anything else. One thing is certain Megan will prevail and come out on top no matter what is thrown her direction. Ya can't keep a hot girl down. Ahh!
